Dark Fruit-eating Bat
(Artibeus obscurus) |
Artibeus obscurus is found in South America east of the Andes, from southern Colombia and the Guianas south to Bolivia and southeastern Brazil; up to 1,400 m, but generally below 500 m asl. Although this species inhabits primarily tropical evergreen and semi-deciduous forests, it is also found in savanna (Cerrado), palm groves, orchards, and other habitats containing fruiting trees. Roosts are in hollow trees, foliage, and palms. A. obscurus feed on fruit, e.g., of Ficus, Inga, and Pourouma, and seeds of Cecropia. Its fur is darker than in other Artibeus. Weight is 30-52 g.
